Depends on the maximum weight of the lorry, and your age.

If you are old enough your licence will have category C1 on it, allowing you to drive anything up to seven and a half ton.

Younger people have to take a test for this category following a change in the rules a few years ago.
Further to PB's answer, almost certainly not. The small 4 wheel council gritters are usually plated at 17T, let alone the big 28 tonners used on the motorways.
