What is the fixed penalty for being stopped with an ileagally spaced private number plate.
I have got one at the moment, but unless one digit is moved along slightly to spell my name, the plate looks a bit naff. But in doin so it becomes ileagal.

Is it £30 fine, somebody has told me it is now £60 and possibly points??

Look out Doc's about! Mine isnt that bad
Without giving away my name. Here is a similar example tomine

If my name was BAKER and I found a reg B4 KER, I am simply closing the gap between the digits to create B4KER. But, the law is the law, I concede!

I used to wizz the leagal one on for MOT's until I got stopped - sorry Doc, I truly am scum of the earth!!!! :)
A6 MBH - that's mine!
The best ones are those that miss space the characters to make a name that you cant make out ...then have their name printed on the bottom to give you a clue...priceless
bednobs : The problem is ANPR, speed and congestion charge cameras cannot read
illegal plates.
it wont look "naff" to most people it will just look like a standard number plate.

those that know your name will see what the plate is meant to represent without you having to move any digits. Those that dont know you couldnt care less that your name is across the numberplate :)

Prat plates, or , as the Americans call them, vanity plates.

Never seen the point myself - have always thought they looked extremely naff.
doc arent you teh one who takes pics of number plates when youre supposedly, in control of the vehicle and also speeding??? pot kettle black springs to mind
£60 fixed penalty ,NO POINTS!!!,i have been driving around with one for 14 years ,often use the M1/M40/M^6 etc.so i have driven through many APR cameras so i know it can be read,my work also brings me into contact with traffic plod, never had a problem before .
Went into Cornwall last year some local PC (outside Peranporth) with nothing better to do decided it was my turn for a fine! Before anyone starts moralising about the rights & wrongs, my number plate uses the required lettering its just one letter is spaced 8mm out !! crime of the century...compared with some of the plates out there 8mm is nothing.
I have no idea about the plate but what you said about the last policeman seeming to feel bad about fineing you made me think of the one time I got done speeding. I got pulled into a side road and the police woman was really apologetic and basically said they were only doing it cos the old dears kept moaning. She made it clear she really didn't want to be giving me a producer, which of course led to fine and points. I felt more sorry for her then I did for myself.
My front plate is a sticker done on the PC .. Print a few off occasionally.
Never been troubled by it .. a few police have asked to look around the car, and under the bonnet out of interest.
There are better things to worry about, TBH.
