..I have known for more than 20 years a man who is a member of a classic motor bike club.He regularly rides his '60s BSA bikes across Britain and even into Europe on club expeditions...many hundreds of miles at a time.A more spine jolting experience its hard to imagine......AND YET... he hasn't worked a day in all those years claiming a back injury...paid for by the tax payer. He uses the local pub and laughs at anyone who suggests hes a sponger....Is this right?????

I can walk... Won't get very bloody far at the moment though since I'm still recovering from an op but you wouldn't know anything was wrong unless I had my crutch with me (it's never very far away lately). I've come to have a fairly healthy respect for people who look fine but are actually in quite a lot of pain most of the time since this all kicked off last April... I'm lucky that I can fix mine. I think before this, I probably wanted to see 'proof' someone was disabled, s'not always that obvious though. You should report it if you feel that strongly about it.
Yep. I think the mental health ones will be the hardest hit in the shake up... I think there are always going to be cases of frauds but some people with mental health issues can be fine one day and wobble (severely) the next. Plus some of the medications for mental health issues I think are very strong and would make it difficult for somone to focus on something intricate but I could be wrong about that.
That's true anne, but some still use an excuse of being too stressed to work or suchlike. I haven't met that many people in the offices where I work that aren't stressed to the max on most days. So I don't always agree with that as an excuse. The same for some physical problems too - i think sometimes it's more a case of that they aren't fit to do they job they fancy doing rather than not being able to work at all. I think the ease of getting benefits and the lack of appropriate opportunities plays a big factor too.
It's a shame really, cos then everyone on disability benefits gets treated with suspicion when they may be a completely genuine case.
