New Foal Born Today

I don't know if you will be able to see it in the photo very well, but there's the most beautiful little Shetland pony foal been born in the field next to our house just this morning. There are two other horses in the same field as well as the mother and they are SO curious. I'm not going to try to get closer today.

How lovely. It reminds me of the time I saw a horse standing over another, lying down in a field. This was early morning, and on my way home in the evening, the horse was still looking down on the other, stretched out on the grass.

I was concerned that the horse wasn't okay, so I found a chap in one of the barns and told him. He replied that the standing horse had been on his own for a long time - they'd only recently got the second horse - and the first horse was so pleased to have a mate, he was just standing over him, looking at him in awe.

Sorry, we had a bit of a commotion. The other 2 horses started to kick the foal. The mother was trying her best to fend them off. We went to get the owner who lives just round the corner from us. So there was the owner, his wife, their little girl, my husband, my Dad, the next door neighbours and me taking the photos! It was like a parade! And here they are being moved to a safer field. PS It is Freddie Flintof , but no, he's not my partner. LOL

Makes me wonder how that foal managed to fit into its mum - I am not going to think about how painful it must have been to give birth.
