Speed camaras
Why do some people insist that speed camaras should be hidden out of sight so as to catch more drivers speeding? If the reason for them is to make drivers slow down and so reduce accidents, surely then they should be as highly visible as possible as they are now. Unless of course they are just money making machines, then they would be hidden.

Those who suggest those things just take a delight in trying to make other people unhappy. They hope to force them to become obedient out of fear, even though this tends not to work, but they enjoy the occasions when it doesn't. I suspect they are under the mistaken impression that all must obey simply because a rule has been imposed by someone, and desperately want everyone to be the same.

I agree with the main point.
When motorists flash at each other, to warn each other of speed traps, the Police get the right hump, and bleat on about obstructing the course of justice.
But ... warning each other about speed traps encourages other cars to slow down ...
... which, the Police CLAIM, is the whole idea of speed cameras.
So we are actually HELPING the Police to achieve their "stated" objective.
So why do they whinge? Unless they have been lying about the purpose of speed cameras?????

Has Dave50 said something he shouldn't, you all appear to arguing on Dave's side, he is all for the speeding cameras being visible and just making a point that has been argued thousands of times before, even in the court room.
Personally I think they are just around for making money, many road safety advisers will argue that they even cause accidents.
