Puncture repair kits v. space saver spare wheel
I notice that a lot of new cars, particularly smaller vehicles, don't come with space saver spare wheels any more, just a spray can puncture repair kit. Are these repair kits good enough to complete a journey or really only intended to get you to the next motorway junction or nearest garage? Has anybody used these kits and completed a longish journey satisfactorily? In your experience is a space saver a lot more use?

Our neighbour just a few days ago spend 9 hours stuck on Dartmoor with no reception on their mobile, no spare wheel, they hit a granite outcrop and ripped a hole in the tyre, they tried the repair kit but it came straight out the hole in the side of the tyre, they eventually arrived back home at 3 am.

Thanks to all for your comments. Subsequently, I have found that space saver tyres are optional on many new vehicles that come with a puncture repair kit as standard, so things are not quite so bad as I first thought. Likewise, there are products like Ultraseal available which seem to have good results and are more of a long term fix than the manufacturers puncture repair kits. It still niggles a little that one has to pay extra for a spacesaver in the first place when there are so many gimmicky things put on a car as standard.
I bought a new Fiesta, I was not given the option of a spare and did not realise that it did not have one. Afrter 10 years of puncture free driving I had a puncture after the first 1000 miles (sod'd law). As the tyres were brand new I was reticent to use the supplied sealant after seeing comments that this makes them un repairable. I purchased a space saver wheel kit, including jack and brace, off the internet for £70, changed the wheel, drove to a garage and got my original new tyre repaire for £10. All cheaper than a new tyre! I believe a spare tyre kit, even if spacesaver, should be supplied with all cars.
