OK I optimistically ticked the box which said I'd like to be considered for a FP but I think I'd be very lucky to get away with that. OK I'm prepared for the brick bats from the motoring evangelist wing!

the point i was making with the story about my friend is that yes the op 'knows' that it was wrong and illegal - but i bet he thinks he was cool...

my friend thought she was cool...and she is a 37 yr old mother...

i think people are commenting to show that although the speeders think they're cool, no-one else looks at them whizzing past and think "ooh aren't they great, i wish i could be just like them" - as they undoubtedly seem to think - rather they just think " what an idiot" and feel revulsion for them.
Even other speeders don't think they're cool, so its all totally in their heads.

and of course many people speed somewhat - but doing 37 in a 30 is not the same as 90 in a 50...nowhere near...
hefty fine...points and perhaps a suspension...take a lesson from this !
Do people really speed because they thinks its 'cool'?

I'd've thought people speed because speed if fun (there, I've said it - going fast is fun) or because they want to get somewhere quicker.
Actually, f_f, if you asked a number of people why they speed many of them would struggle to give you an answer. Many people who do so are not actually in a hurry. I thinks they do it "because they can."

Anyway, that's by the by. Just a point of clarification arising from what one or two have said. For a single speeding offence you can EITHER receive penalty points OR a disqualification, not both.
I havent said you were a causer (sic) of accidents, but speed attributes to more accidents than anything else

your comparison to claiming form your insurance wasn't a good one
Joko >and of course many people speed somewhat - but doing 37 in a 30 is not the same as 90 in a 50...nowhere near...<<
IMO doing 37 in a 30 is worse - pedestrians are about in a 30 limit.
ladybirder, my point was the relative speeds - a driver could potentially get to 37 absent mindedly - its hardly boy racer time - but going almost double the speed limit is deliberate and idiotic

FF - yes they do...they think its fun BECAUSE they feel they are cool - they imagine they are being looked upon by other drivers with envy...their ego is being stroked - albeit only in their own minds - they feel powerful and proud because they have a fast car... some imagine they are flying jets or the millenium falcon or something - that is the 'fun'
smugness is also one... my friend was particularly smug...felt special...like queen of the road..

sad really, that someone needs that kind of thing to give them a sense of self worth...hollow though it is...
I think you are over analysing why people like to drive fast.

I like to drive/ride fast in the right conditions and on the right roads for no other reason than I find going fast fun.

Why do you think people go on roller coasters? Its not because they think it makes them look cool.
I think you will be lucky to get away with only being hanged.
Adrenaline.... when you do something dangerous you get a rush of adrenaline it enhances the feeling of excitement at low levels at high levels you are likely to make a mess on the seat but you are unlikely to get that bad speeding, It's addictive
joko, if your friend knew you talk about her like this you would no longer be friends, you must have a chip on your shoulder, lighten up and stop sounding like an old grump
