I have my driving test on Monday (it's my 2nd, I failed the 1st!!) I failed on reversing round a corner. I'm still not totally confident that I'll be able to pass this one!! I'm not too hot at reversing round a corner and (surprise surprise as I'm female) parallel parking!! Anyone got any advice/tips they can give me to help with these 2 manouvers?! (not sure if I've spelt that right?!)

First, practice.  If you're taking the test in your own car, get your mum or dad to take you out in it and just literally practive reversing round corners and parallel parking (although if you're not too confident, please practive between two boxes or something - the learner that crashes into my car because they're "not confident"... well you don't want to know).

If it's your driving instructors car, arrange to have half an hours lesson before your test, and have an hours lesson about 2 days before, go through anything you're not confident with, and ask your instructor what you're doing wrong if anything...

Open a rear window if possible.  Just a fraction to keep the air circulating round the car and help keep you calm!

A minor hint from me - although I passed first time, I nearly failed as my indicator canceled on me going round a roundabout - make sure they stay on!

Just a tip for the test, if you make a minor mistake doing a manuever (sp?) and make a mistake, ask to do it again as you realised that you've done it wrong, they like it if you keep your head and understand where you've gone wrong... (not BIG mistakes though of course!) I made a couple of mistakes in my test and they said I passed becaused I didn't panic and i sorted myself out..good luck!
Dont touch the curb what ever you do. Look all around Use your mirrors all the time. As you go around too little turn and you go wide too much turn and you hit the kerb. Not too fast a crawl will do your driving instructor will give you an intence course as you are worried only on this. He does want you to pass. Good Luck Let Us Know.

Hell i know what your goin through , i have my test on fri 13th.....hoping , its a good omen iwas born on fri13th,this will b my 4th time , im fine with the manouvres my problemis being hard of hearing i dont hear the indicators if they cancelon meor dont cancel as the case may b sometimes the sunlight prevents you fromseeing the green arrows too..... i try and stay calmbut its so hard not to be nervous espeically when you want/need it so much, GOOD LUCK :)

I am not sure you should take the advise of putting an L plate in your window to line up the kerb with - it is actually illegel to put an L in your window and if you are taking your test in your own car the examiner will make you remove it - so there goes your marker !!!!

My hubby is a driving instructor and he doesn't hold with this method at all.  he has a brilliant way of parallel parking and reversing and as far as i know none of his pupils have failed for either manoeuvre.

Good Luck  Hope it goes ok on monday.

ive passed......... best advice forget examiner sitting there beside you and imagine your instructor what would  he say MIRRORS...... DINK THE WHEEL etc, stay focussed on the moment and all should b fine .... get champagne on ice too let us know but its a great feelin topass esp on fri 13th.....x

Lots of luck, knowhow your feelin probably felt the same last fri morning ...... let us know how get on

any news Alixw ?

I failed! But unfairly i think. He gave me my 2 worst manouvers - parallel park & reverse round a corner, did them both fine, and through the whole test i only got 5 minors, but he failed me because i went over a flyover & didnt move back into the left hand lane. Normally i'd think that he had good reason to think that was wrong - but i knew we were about to turn right at traffic lights, and there was traffic in the left hand lane, so would have been stupid to move into the left then try and get back into the right straight away. But there you go, not much i can do about it now! Have booked another test for 1st June, so hopefully i'll have a nicer examiner then!!
sorry to hear its a Fail. i had 6 of them im hard of hearing and failed on not hearing indicators cancel..... the examiners really are getting very picky but hey dont be too hard on yourself both the manouvresyou had problems with were fine and only 5 minors ..... you did well fingers crossed for the 1st thats my anniversary,:)
I found these two video tutorials rather helpful
