i have an old beetle, 1973. im trying to get insurance on it (renewing) looking at different websites etc. My question is, i always have to enter the discription of the car as they never know what car it is when i put my registration number in. i thought the insurances take the details from the DVLA? should i be concerened that they never know what car it is and contact the dvla to make sure everything is registared correctly or is it just because it is an old car?
Only guessing, but maybe the details of cars were only put on line after a certain date. You would need to call DVLA to make sure this is true. I had to call them recently and they were very helpful.
You should not be searching the general sites anyway.
I asdvise you to contact specialist classsic insurers for a better deal with an agreed value.
Buy a Practical Classics or Classics Monthly and look in the back. You should also consider joining a club as they usually have links with insurers that know your vehicle abd do discounts.
Your car is classed as historic and doesn't come up. I had the same problem with my old Moggy Traveller (damn I miss that car). I recommend Adrian Flux for insurance. It's cheap because it's historic and the breakdown service realises that yes, you WILL break down!
