gutted isnt the word ;-(

well, after all the years we've been together, all the hints all the ''discussions'' my partner and i have had, he finally popped the question this morning! Been out all day looking at rings and couldn't find 'the one' so we decided to keep looking and not to announce it to our friends till monday when were holding a jubilee party. Obviously our close family know as i couldnt contain our excitement but we wanted to make a bit of a big deal about it when everyone was together.
Anyway get home and log on to see that one of the guests, and infact a mutual friend has just announced she has also just got engaged. I know i sound bridezilla before weve even started but im absolutely gutted, ive cried my eyes out for the past few hours, there's no way we can announce ours now,it would be like stealing their thunder so to speak. Im so happy for them, but cant shake off this feeling of utter disappointment, ive waited so long for this ;-(

We thought it was great -i t meant we could celebrate together, we both kind of got 2 engagement parties etc. When it came to the actual weddings there was loads of time between the 2 so it wasn't an issue. Be happy for your friend and carry on as you would have if she hadn't got engaged too. Don't let something so petty spoil what should be a happy event because of what others might think - it's about you and your fiance, not the people you are telling.
Go with your initial feelings , and accept the love from your close family, but also feel the same for your friend. I know the timing isn't great from your POV, but in the planning for your big day enjoy your new "engaged-ness" & live with all your new fiance and status in life. BTW congratulations! ☺☺☺
Jogger, with all the really terrible things that happen in the world every day, I cant believe a grown person would waste their tears on something that quite frankly they should be happy about. It doesnt affect them in any way at all. Your own happiness with your partner is what matters, not the fact that coincidentally other people are also now engaged. How very dare they!
