My mum has oil central heating, with a oil tank at the side of the house. Things keep going wrong with it now mum is on her own - no hot water mostly. Who would you call in to service oil central heating - it is a very old system installed by my dad, who is no longer around.

Do people still have oil central heating ? Or is it mainly gas now ?

As far as I am aware all main forms of domestic energy are still used to power c/h. Do they not have heating engineers in the yellow pages ?
Word of mouth is best, do any of the neighbours have oil as well? Oil is quite common where I live as there is no gas in the village, and we find it a cost effective form of heating, but it is important to have oil boilers serviced annually.
My Mother has oil fired heating, the engineer who services it works for the company who supply the oil, maybe try there.
I have oil heating, so does everyone else in my road, its still quite common, and an efficient system is cheaper to run than gas. Service wise, theres not much to go wrong, but if the boiler is ancient, a new one is a fortune, so if there was natural gas in the road it would be cheaper to convert, and, if your mother is on Her own She may qualify for a grant to upgrade.
With regard to cost Boiler Juice can put you in touch with a heating engineer for a service. Usually half the price of others.
I always get my oil from Boiler juice as it is usually cheaper than most companies.

Heres their repair service............

There are over a million people in the UK not on the mains gas network who choose to use heating oil - mainly in rural areas.

I'd say read more on the Rix website: https://www.rix.co.uk/heating-oil-prices/
About 1.5 million people in the UK use heating oil. This is mainly in rural areas where homes are not connected to the national gas network. For more info on heating oil, visit https://www.rix.co.uk/heating-oil-prices/
