take someone with you who knows about cars.
when you first phone up say"can you tell me about the car" if they say "which one?" hang up they are traders acting as normal human beings.
log book should be in there name and at there own address.
they should have owned it for a year minimum
thank you mr sin ,now back on your chain.......
"i bought it for the wife/dad/daughter and she dont like it."bullocks!

I'd be wary of selling a car on e-bay unless I was sure it was tip-top as I wouldn't want to risk my 100% feedback rating. But then if there was nothing wrong with the car why would I want to sell it? I buy nearly new so some other mug has taken the depreciation hit, and I keep it until you have to sweep it up with a dustpan and brush.
We have bought and sold cars on eBay - just seems quicker somehow (it was himself's job so can't remember the ins and outs). When we sold we let them come for a test drive and I think we did the same when we bought (both times must have been quite local though). We paid cash and our buyers bought in cash after they had had a good luck at the car.
Over many years I have bought cars privately, from a dealer, from a friend, from a relative, from news ads and from notices in the street. I have also bought and sold cars on EBay. My experience has been that you can get a dog from anyone and they may in turn know it barked or sold it in good faith. What does matter is that should it be a pup you have got legal comeback. There is no problem buying off EBay as long as you appreciate that if the cam belt goes within 300 miles, tough. Just be sure you know what you are looking at, don't pay too much and walk away at the first hint of grief.
