I would leave the Fiat well alone. I very much doubt that you will get 79mpg though!
Have you considered the Skoda Felicia diesel also? That claims to get the same fuel economy as the other 2 cars you mentioned.
Peugot have the better reputation for reliability.
I had an old Peugot 208 and it was very economical, around 50mpg but that was around town and short journeys to work. You will NEVER get 79 mpg in real life .( Well possibly cruising at a steady 40 mph in top gear might do it)
Re-saleable price for a Punto " very little" Re-saleable price for the Peugeot "good" providing the Peugeot has history, go for it, they are very economically to service / repair, easy to work on, prices are cheap depends where you look, cam belts around 65.000, if you are not well up on the mechanics pay someone to go with you, check if the car has it's radio code, & also do your home work regards the state of the car this is where a mechanic comes in.
Think JonnyBoy means Skoda Fabia (Felicia hasn't been made for many, many years!).
Wouldn't have the Fiat if you gave it to me.
Neither of them will do anything like 79 mpg.
Skoda Fabia Diesel WILL do 65 mpg in the real world.
