tom tom problem

my tom tom is just showing on the screen a disc with a blue arrow saying to take out the disc. I have done this, tried troubleshooting but it still doesn't work. my other world disc works in it. Any ideas what is causing this? I have had the tom tom since 2007, i always keep it and all the leads etc with it obviously in the car glove compartment so doubt it's the cold. I don't really want to have to buy the download for it at forty four pounds.
