Battery Query
I am a dunce when it comes to electrics! My car has a 6v. system. Is there any gizmo that can be fitted which would allow me to use a 12v. battery and which will reduce the output to 6v. I do not wish to attempt a full conversion of all components; it would probably be costly and anyway I'd certainly make a pig's ear of it.

This link points to is a fascinating description of the issues one one example of a 6 volt car. http:// www. studebaker- info. org/ tech/ 6- 12V/ 6- 12- 6. html It doesn't mention battery polarity but does make the interesting point about replacing high-current components with 12 volt versions first and then stepping down for the low current components....

LINCON make batteries [for classic cars] which have the cell connectors exposed, so, you could easily draw 6v off just three of the cells. Someone could drill and tap the metal part for you. Having said that, why not just buy a replacement 6v battery anyway? They are still available and not silly money through the classic car specialists.
