oily coolent

I have a rover 400i r reg and I am told this has fuel injection which i am not clued up on.

I have over the last 2 weeks filled up the coolent expasion with water/anti-freeze but the oil on the dip stick indicates that the oil dosent need topping up. this I have had to do at least 3 three times in the last 2 weeks, top up with coolent but not oil.   the coolent in the exspasion tank is oily but I dont see any trace of water on the dip stick so what is wrong, why oily water but no trace of water on the dip stick?   the tempature gauge on the dash in the car runs on normal even when sitting in trafic so the car is not over heating.   is it ok to contiue to use the car with oily coolent or am I likely to brake down any time while useing the car?

You've probably got a blown head gasket which will pressureise the cooling system and evacuate coolant. Slight traces of oil film may be evident. This will not necessarily affect the oil as the pressure within the cylinders is far greater than the cooling system.

You need a new gasket.
