Engine Over Revving When Coming To A Halt.
Hi, I have a Ford Focus and over the last couple days when I stop the car, stopping at junctions, crossing etc The revs go up to almost 4000rpm. This not only embarrassing for me but also, I assume, not very good for the car. Any ideas people? I know nothing about cars so I am appealing for your theories TIA

I had this with a Ford Fiesta, and it was caused by a faulty throttle position sensor, otherwise known as a potentiomete r. If you replace it yourself, buy a genuine Ford one. I made the mistake initially of buying a cheap Chinese copy off eBay and it caused other problems.
