Hi BigRooster, when I saw your question title for a horrid moment I thought You'd been car-jacked lol!.
I don't know personally, but 'Pistonheads' forum is fab, and this link goes to advice for jacking and seems to cover your problem (?):

Not car jacked thank god but thanks for the link
Ramps might be a better option, however if you have no ramps do as Scrivens say's.
why not put the car on the kerb one side then jack other side up!
There was a bloke from Manchester crushed last week when the Jack failed, a pair of stands will cost you around £20 & well worth the money, if you intend to bye put a lenght of 3x2 timber at the base of the ramps to assit the car going up the ramp, once the car is up front / rear, take it from there, but REMEMBER BIG, "SAFETY" HANDBRAKE & IN GEAR, take the key out of thye IGN in case some clown tries to start the car ( seen it happen)
Do you know anyone with a pit or a friendly garage that will let you use their hydraulic lift?
The problem there Welsh Is the Insurance, some don't bother but a lot are on the ball.
