I'm a motorist and cyclist. I wouldn't mind forking our a bit for motorists to attend an awareness course on how to behave towards cyclists.
Until I started cycling I hadn't realised how invisible bikes were or how determined a motorist can be in an attempt to overtake a cyclist when there isn't a space wide enough to do so safely.
Buenchco - "People who don't use public libraries still pay for them. People who never use the National Health Service (either because they have private treatment or simply never fall ill) still pay for it. People without children pay for schools and colleges. People who never use sports centres, swimming pools, or theatres pay to subsidise them. People who never go into public parks still pay towards their upkeep. People who don't drive or cycle still pay for roads. It would seem somewhat harsh to separate out cyclists for special treatment!"
I entirely agree.
Part of living in a soceity is accepting that not everyone benefits from everything - and the idea of portioning off the bits you would like to / be willing to pay for is simply not an option.
No, they all cycle on the pavement anyway. In all seriousness it is not feasable to charge them for all the things that will have been mentioned above. Insurance yada yada yada. Better to just enforce the law as it is. Also we don't have any cycle lanes in UK.
TTT those that cycle on the pavement are a bunch of idiots and it's not generally the Lycra clad whizz boys delivering parcels, but the mum, dad, teens who seem to have little or no regard for the law.
i would say that 30 percent i see cycle on pavement, the rest are at least on the road, however over 70 percent of those cycle over red lights. How do i know, i helped the local traffic safety officers do a count.
I am surprised more cyclist are not injured or killed, they do not obey general traffic rules, and ride two abreast holding up traffic.
I am a cyclist and obey the rules of the road, but most I see or come across are a pain in the ass.
