Yes. Same was an English driver could drive in France or Spain on a UK licence
yes, but i think there is a rule about how long you can stay in another eu country if you go to live there before you have to take their test
An EU citizen can drive here on their own national licence unless they've 'become resident' (which means that they've been living in this country for 185 days or more). Once they've become resident they are required to exchange their licence for a British one but no new driving test is required.

To the best of my knowledge, those rules have been the same since we joined the EEC (as the EU used to be) but I couldn't swear to it
the reason why i ask is i had a workmate who owns property over in france and when he knew the firm was shutting down he said he would go over to live

he had a car and bike and said he did not fancy taking his test again

his bike was a gold wing

he is at present still working up north so i presume he has come back and he will just go over for his holidays
