Motorway Signage

Wouldn't m-way driving be SO much better if the Reduced Speed signs were positioned further back, possibly on the main road so you could realise there is some kind of hold-up on the motorway and make an informed decision BEFORE you commit to the slip road and just make things worse by joining the motorway traffic queue?

This would only serve to clog up main roads. I find the RAC app very good for looking at trouble,spots before I set off or whilst I'm out and about (whilst travelling as a passenger of course).

i never seen any cars reduce speeds at these signs so i just follow on like them (call me a sheep)

Here in Suffolk, the A14 matrix signs are used to warn drivers of problems on the M25, the M2, the M20, the M1 and on other major roads up to 100 miles (or more) away. Surely that should be sufficient warning for you, wouldn't it, Matheous-2?

here in the midlands, the control rooms (or whoever is in charge) are not very good at keeping the information on the matrix signs up to date - a sign that says "M6 Delays J17-J19" posted in Birmingham could be hours old with the dlays long since dissipated. so do you take them at face value and slog up the alternative country roads, or ignore them as unreliable? not an easy call.
