Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that a vehicle's direction indicators were part of the MOT test. If I am correct, why is it that on my way to a Hospital today, I saw several motorists whose indicators were not working, even when making a left or right turn.

The MOT isn't required until a car is three years old - the cars you saw may well have been not that old.

Why is it that a lot of drivers won't use one finger to use an indicator - yet will freely use two fingers when making a point to a fellow motorist!

Why was a three point turn ever included in a driving test?
Time wasted when they could be watching your driving skills in traffic.

Almost as annoying is when a driver, at motorway speed, puts the indicator on, usually for only one 'flash', at the same time as he/she pulls across into your lane. Using the indicator should be used to show other road users thjat you would like to pull out when there is a gap not to show that you have just made that move.

I would suggest that he was being quite sensible and telling drivers behind him of his intentions - good thinking and widely used, particularly on motorways.

Davemano, the relevant point in my post was that they do it 'as they pull out, they should do it before pulling out.

Difficult to comment without actually seeing, but a signal of intention is necessary when a) there is someone to signal to, and b) if your manoeuvre is likely to have adverse consequences for other road users.
