Driver Door Difficult To Open On Ford Mondeo

I have found it increasingly difficult to open the driver door.
Is very stiff & I am worried I may break the key if I put too much
pressure on it.
It could be that the door mechanism has seized up - is there anything
I can do to ease things?

Thanks for any advice.

Before doing anything more expensive, try simply squirting a generous amount of WD40 into the lock and then operating it repeatedly quite a few times.

Is it the Door Hinges that's causing the problem or the Lock Mechanism?

Buenchico do I spray the WD40 into the lock or the lock
mechanism?

Thanks.

Thanks Baldric. It is the lock mechanism.
Take it stage by stage ,into the lock first and only then start to look deeper, it may well do the trick.

Thanks Mamya
Spray the WD40 onto the key a few times - the internal pins can jam.
give the wd40 a day or so to creep into the further parts of the mechanism if it doesn't have an immediate effect. If it does work follow it up with some oil such as 3 in 1 as this will follow the wd40 and have a more lasting effect. WD40 by itself tends to dry out or creep away over time.

Some great advice coming in.

Thanks to you too jomifl.

You wasn't there when I started typing.
Sounds more like the key mechanism rather than the lock.
With some copper grease on the tip of the key, inset it into the lock barrel & keep repeating, also as said WD40, If that does not free it up It will be the removal of the door card to find the source, if you do intend to go down this route purchase some door card plastic retaining clips before you start the job, these clips tend to snap on removal, allow a couple of hours to complete the job.

Many thanks to those who contributed to this thread.

I went out & bought some WD40 and gave the keyhole a good
squirt. Within 30 minutes I was able to open the door with no undue
force.

The value of Answerbank I'd say!
Absolutely marvellous
WD40 will give a temporary fix, but will evaporate.

I suggest you try to introduce some thicker oil to stop it happening again.
A silicone lock lubricant would be better than any oil. Oils tend to clog-up delicate lock mechanisms especially in cold Winter conditions.
The locksmiths where I worked always recommended silicon lubricant rather than oil.
Sorry, silicone.
