Citroen C3 '62 Reg Problems

Had this car since November 2 weeks ago a stop light came on on the dashboard and a message 'Temporary engine fault'. Car was recovered to garage had courtesy car. They diagnosed a thermostat fault and replaced it.
Within a day the same fault reappeared and I went back. I waited while the drained the water, replaced it and told everything was fine. Within a day same fault back car recovered to the garage again another courtesy car. It has been with them now for a week. They rang me on Saturday to say that the thermostat that they had fitted had been faulty and the head gasket had been damaged. They had replaced the thermostat & head gasket but needed to run the car to be sure that the fault had been sorted. If I was in agreement one of the mechanics would drive it home to be sure that it was ok. They would fill the tank for me and then give me a full tank when that had run out. Being just a ladyeee I thought that was ok but talking to my grandson who is a good amateur mechanic he was unsure. What do others think? All being well I should be picking up my car today

If they fitted a faulty Thermostat then to me, it's garage duty to put this right, regards keeping the car does the driver have Insurance to drive it? if you are picking the car up today I would Question the comments I have suggested.
Just picked up the car The gauge shows blue then goes of after driving and I think that the gauge went to red Not completely sure as I stopped as soon as the red stop light came on. They say that the replacement thermostat they fitted was faulty and the head gasket was damaged. They have assured me that every thing is ok now. I think I will just have to take their word for it and wait and see Thank you for your input
Gran, whilst driving put the heater in the "HOT POSITION" If it starts blowing Hot / Cold / Hot / Cold there is air in the System, contact the Garage ASA It needs to be addressed, they also said the Head Gasket was damaged, if it was damaged did they replace it? once these have "Blown" they need to get replaced, these gaskets only get Damaged if the Head has been removed and taken off at an angle after removing then the head catches the Head Gasket, there is a difference.
