Every so often my ford escort diesel turbocharger decides to explode and leave a trail of smoke in its wake.What should i do?

Sorry perhaps explode is the wrong word but it certainly feels like it when the turbo decides to let itself go

are you sure its turbo related? what do you mean by explode, a turbo is driven by exhaust gases and it doesnt "explode" now and and again or at all really!

All i can think of is that the wastegate is sticking open or blocked air filter, the possibilities are !!!!! without more info!
