Although I am now out of the Industry I still keep in contact with a few that's done the Worthless Job, I understand the Industry is 60000 Drivers short, would you do the job? If yes, why?
Not a HGV driver myself, I do sympathise with the drivers what they have to put up with on motorways and other roads from car drivers. Maybe it's the ex biker in me.
Still have my Hgv Licence, not sure I'd want to work in the industry again. Rules, regulations, cost of maintenance, other road users. Why bother when you earn sweet FA!!
I also have a motorcycle licence and can see the issue from many sides of the argument.
Son is HGV driver and he loves it but doing the same trip night after night would drive me dotty. Love driving but enjoy a a bit of variety when I go out.
I like the idea of sitting on my own for hours while getting paid, but I don't really want to sleep in a lorry with other lorries' engines going all night.
I can only drive automatics anyway. Do they have automatic transmission lorries?
well you're not exactly selling it as a career TWR! to the uninitiated it must seem like a romantic, open road, own boss, type of existence but from what you say it's a nightmare! so no I probably would not do it!
I'm not that keen on driving, and driving a large vehicle every working day, all day, would be particularity unattractive. But some think there is value in being on one's own, out on the open road, away from the office or whatever. It all depends on what one values as to whether the job is "worthless" or "brilliant".
