Car Tax Query
I bought another car last week, the owner told me he'd only had the car for two weeks and said the log book was sent off to the DVLA and he would let me have it when it arrived back from them. This hasn't arrived yet.
Whilst checking the date of the MOT online, I saw that it wasn't taxed.
The seller assured me it had tax when he bought it and he promised to not cancel the tax until the log book was with me, then I could take over the tax for it.
I have spoken to the DVLA and they have said that I cannot tax the vehicle until I have the log book or the V5C new keeper slip ( I have neither) but I need to use the car.
So where do I go from here please?
All the forms from DVLA state that I have to wait at least 4 weeks before I can apply for a duplicate log book etc.
Please can anyone help !

If he didn't have the registration document or the slip he's have got when he bought how do you even know it was his to sell? Did DVLA confirm they had actually received it presumably to change ownership to him?

Update: Police advise not to use the car. If stopped for any reason, the car will be taken away, there will be a fine & points on the licence.
I have sent a duplicate document request to DVLA, sent it special delivery, they have confirmed receipt, now waiting for their next move! Seller has confirmed he will sort it out - we shall see! I'll update again when I know something.
thanks to you all

Well, all this is finally resolved.
I had to pay £25 for a duplicate log book before I could tax it, so it sat in the garage for a month. When the log book arrived, it had no mention of the chappie I bought the car from - now that's a surprise!
I could (and should) have walked away from it, but would have lost a super car and it was just what I wanted.
So alls well that ends well. It is legal again.
many thanks for all your thoughts and advice.
kind regards
