44 Tonners very close to each other! I'd tried not to do this when I was on the road for obvious reasons, it takes the Truck a while to stop due to the load / Weight you were carrying, the same applies when you were Empty, with the brakes Applied they would lock up & you would still travel in a skid, I think it should become Law that HGV's be 2 Length's apart when travelling, this may be hard to comply with the volume of traffic & drivers cutting you up to get off at a Junction but it can be implemented, I also think that dash cam recordings should be used in a court of law to prosecute, I've had cars coming from the Outside lane right across me & others because they have miscalculated their Junction, the reason for this comment, that accident on the M1, apart from this Drink issue, I'm sure that these HGVs were travelling to close for this carnage to happen, what's your views?

Mush, I am not sticking up for HGV drivers pulling out without indicating, one reason they do this is because they are approaching another HGV that's going slower than them, to keep up the speed thus not having to drop the gears, some motorist can not understand this a, Is they are stuck in the Middle lane & may have been in that lane for miles upon miles, I do not condone what some do but I can understand why it's done, a car can accelerate within a coupe of Seconds, a HGV will take about a 20min to regain it's speed thus using Diesel.
I think anyone can understand overtaking, even if it is going to take you a while to mange it - but no one should accept the lack of indication to alert other drivers.

It isn't just trucks that do this. Lots of drivers drive far too close for my liking. Its a modern plague.

It happens to me, every day, and not just on the Motorway.

I think one of the reasons is that because cars have such efficient brakes, compared to a few years ago, people think that they brake their way out of trouble, but as can be seen in every shunt-type crash, they can't.

I saw a shunt type accident today, on the M4 near Bridgend. It looked as if 4 cars were effected.

Most accidents, especially on Motorways, seem to be cause by a combination of high speed and not keeping the necessary distance from the car in front.
And probably footballers?
HGV drivers will respond to bad driving around them they are human after all ,one comment about a HGV cutting up a car on a motorway 3 times would suggest lane hogging and or not reading the road ahead and making way for the HGV,these drivers are professionals at what they do and yes you do get the odd bad ones as well,remember you might drive 10.000 miles a year these drivers drive in excess of 100.000 a year and generaly with out incident
TWR - the speed limit for lorries on UK motorways is now 60mph. Unfortunately some still have their govenor set to 56mph.
Wouldn't that already be covered with existing laws about dangerous driving, etc?
