Hopefully going to be getting a fairly decent Nissan Qashqai soon. Got about £14k to spend but not sure whether to go for petrol or diesel.

Are diesels going to be taxed to the hilt in future?

Advice welcome

It all depends on your annual mileage and how new a car you are looking to buy (I haven't a clue about Qashqai prices). Having run diesels for the past 18 years I am very much in favour of the fuel consumption and low-rev torque. Furthermore, since I do about 16,000 miles a year of which about 10,000 are abroad (where diesel is much cheaper) I reckon I save about half my fuel costs by using diesel, which equates to around £1000 a year. Having said that, I would be loath to buy a very new diesel because of the uncertainty of its future.
I don't think you need worry about diesel being taxed to the hilt just yet, it will happen, but I would still buy diesel. With regard to the Qashqai, as long as you don't do just in town, stop start driving go diesel. Plus, petrol Qashqai's are a bit like rocky horse poo.
The 1.2 DiG T petrol is a very good choice. Dont be put off by the small engine its very nippy and not bad on fuel.Try to go for the N Connecta or Tekkna as they are well equipped.
