No.
Both are required.
Yes. It is not possible to tax a car UNLESS it is insured, so it has to be permitted. You cannot take it to an MoT station unless it is insured but you can take it if it is not taxed. You can only take it for an MoT if it has a current MoT OR you have booked it in in advance.
i dont think that's true is it baldric?
you can insure a sorned car, surely?
also, i have never been aske about MOT in my insurance quote
Question Author
not arguing against that - but do you know my solicitor told me that if an uninsured driver is at fault in an accident - the victim can claim of some other organisation (don't remember the name) that covers the uninsured.
Not absolutely sure - but thought there were now laws stating that if you own a car - you tax a car - evenif its garaged permanently
Question Author
what is a sorned car - is that MOT
BEAC - not true. If you car is NOT on a public road you do not need to tax it but you DO need to SORN it.
no SORN is when you declare a statutory off road notice (tax)

I'm just thinking last month I got my car MOT- they just allowed me to pick a date but never asked about tax or insurance - (I think) but know you just have to go online and find out. Think I'm right tho.
No Jennyjoan, it stands for Statutory Off Road Notice

jenny SORN = Statutory Off Road Notification. You are confirming to DVLA that your car is not on a public road.
Yes neither Tax nor MOT are required to insure a car. Conversly a car needs to be MOT'd (unless exempt) and insured to be Taxed.

I am taxed and insured tho LOL - just know there are a few cars knocking about and they are not taxed or insured and wonder how they get away with it.
they just hope
Question Author
SORN business - surely if a car is off the road in the garage etc - why should they have to tax it etc.
I believe it can be insured, but in the Sade of a claim, you wouldn't be covered, so there'd really be no point
Maybe the owners have no fixed abode to chase them up at ?
Just looking at any car won't tell you if it is taxed or not. No Licence to display in windscreen. Some but not all Police Cars have ANPR to help them identify untaxed/uninsured vehicles. There are also some ANPR cameras at fixed points on some roads.

They don't have to tax a car that's off tge road. But now-a-days you have to declare it ofg-road by SORN. I think it's a money making exercise fining those that don't.
off-road
as was typed !!!
