my frontera speedo keeps sticking on zero but when i press and hold in the trip counter button the speedo starts to work until the button is released. any ideas.

It sometimes occurs after the needles have been removed. If they are put back on too tightly they will not turn as they get "jammed" against the dial facia. Whilst you are pressing the trip button this may be pushing the facia away from the needles thus allowing them to move freely.
