enigine smoke white

i have a project car which has been stood in my garage for the past year,

i decided to turn over the engine to keep it alive and plumes of white smoke seem to constantly billow out the exhaust even on tick over...its almost pure white but im sure its not steam...and it smells mildly oily..

i totally rebuilt the head last year with new parts so im sure its not that...i dunno, its going into the garage this week for some work doin on it where i will get them to check this out, does anyone have any idea roughly where the problem could be and if it will eat my xmas savings getting it repaired!

assuming its a petrol engine then oily smoke would not be white for obvious reasons.

entirely possible it is just water vapour, there is so much water in petrol nowwadays!! also if its sat and you start it up for a little while without giving it a proper "run" then your gonna get a lot of condensation in the exhaust system.

I have the same problem with one of my cars. As it is loosing water (not leaking), I am guessing head gaskets. Did you pull down the head after a time? Good luck.

Is it an automatic? Some auto's have a vacuum modulator, which if the diaphram punctures can suck transmission fluid into the manifold and is then burned, producing a white smoke.
