You can only try them - some small cars have ample leg room while some big cars are cramped. If you can give us some you might be interested in you might get more solid opinions.
I'm 6-2 I found Hondas & Lexus to be a bit restricted.
Honda CRV, also nice & high off the ground for you to get in & out of.
"The CR-V is one of the better small SUVs, thanks to its roomy cabin, good fuel economy, and competent handling. The 190-hp, 1.5-liter turbo provides ample power even at low to midrange revs. The continuously variable transmission is largely unobtrusive"
As mentioned on another thread I tried a CR-V and couldn't get the seat far enough back that my knees weren't touching the steering wheel (maybe later models are different). They sell seat rail extender kits to give more adjustment.
btw - in Sam's link they seem to concentrate on headroom which is OK but it doesn't say much about leg room. When you are seated these are 2 separate considerations.

I know from experience that the Honda HRV is good for long legs.

Yes - the measure is from the bottom of the footwell to the point where the seat back meets the seat. It doesn't really take account of the pedals & the steering wheel. The only sure way is to sit in the car & see if you fit.
OK, understood, I'm not quite as tall as the OP but it was fine for me & I mourn the loss of it. Now have a Jazz, - perhaps it's an 'age thing'.
You wont get more room or comfort for your £ than in a Skoda Superb. They are HUGE inside. Mine has been on urder since November for a June/July delivery
My husband is 6ft 6" - our last 5 cars have been Skoda Fabias - no problem with legroom for driving but we can't have an adult passenger in the rear seat behind him when he's driving!
More info is needed to make a decent recommendation...small, medium or large car...new or used...budget of £1000 or £20000 etc
