Renault Laguna Heater probs

Hello world, i am hopeing someone may be able to shed some light on a problem i have with my new (to me ) 1996 Laguna 2.0 RXE.

The heater blows lovely, but only blows through the middle vents, it wont adjust to the floor or more importantly up the windscreen, hence i am unable to demist the windscreen or side windows. I also am unable to adjust the temp from hot, nice in the temps we have at the moment but could be a problem should we by chance get a summer in 2006.

I need to know if the adjuster is a mechanical type or if it has an electronic style adjuster, and how easy it to check out.

There is no A/C or climate control, just ya bog standard laymens heater.
