can anyone tell me please how i get the factory stereo out! do i need to take off the fascia that surrounds the heater controlls and ashtray ect?

From memory Micras of this age usually have Blaupunkt units in them, and they are attached by 2 screws either side. So you do have to remove the surrounding trim to get at the screws unfortunately.
