I had similar advisories re tyres a few years ago. Went to Kwik Fit who said they were good for another few thousand miles.  They weren't mentioned at the next MOT.

No idea about prices

they'll all last another year.

Using Asda Tyres for a price guide, each of your three new tyres could cost you as little as £59.99, although you might want to pay a bit more for, say, better fuel economy or better wet grip:
https://www.asdatyres.co.uk/185-55-16

(If you order through Asda Tyres, you select a regular tyre dealership that's convenient to you, such as F1 Autocentres, Fast-Fit, Auto-Fit, etc, to actually supply and fit your tyres but you usually get a lower price than going direct to that dealership).

Guide prices for replacing the brake discs (along with the pads that go with them) can be found here:

Not madly urgent.  Keep an eye out for offers on tyres.

Brake discs should be fine for a good while (unless you  are one of those 'speed-up and brake-hard' merchants).  Everything would probably be an essential by next MOT, but you havetime to sort it out calmly (and more cheaply).

Thank you Barry and Tora.  It was driven only 450 miles over the last year as I rarely use it.  I'm passing it on to my daughter next year as she's the one who uses it most and she'll take me anywhere I want to go.  I have loved driving since the first moment I got in a car with my driving instructor and after a few minutes he said I was a natural.  Wow, Big Up Me.

//since the first moment I got in a car with my driving instructor and after a few minutes he said I was a natural.  Wow, Big Up Me//

If my driving instructor had said that to me, I would be asking them why they wanted me to take more lessons.

Thank you BC and Jourdain. I think I'll leave it for the moment but get it checked out and sorted before I hand it to my daughter.

At my last MoT I got an advisory about the two offside tyres.

I couldn't see anything at all and drove on them until last week when - as I couldn't replace the two on one side -  I bit the bullet and got four new ones.  £43 each at a big place in town

Question Author

Definitely worth checking out prices then brainiac.  Thank you.

Cracking or perishing usually occurs when the tyres are about seven years old or more. If I did a lot of high speed driving I would worry, but if the car just tootled to the shops occasionally it would be less of a worry.

In my experience the brake disc stuff can be ignored. I had similar, and it wasn't mentioned the following year.

I notice the nearside rear tyre isn't mentioned. Perhaps where you park, it isn't in direct sunlight.

I'm interested to know whether you used a local garage or a chain for the MOT.
I can't help wondering if the national companies generate business through advisories.
I had some last year, did nothing about them, went to a local independent this year and had none.

Many years ago I was conversing with an MOT tester (at an MOT station) and he told me that at one test station at which he worked, he was on commission for the work the garage did as a result of him failing vehicles.

I have taken my car to another MOT station when it has failed for some bogus reason.

Depends who's parked either side of me I suppose Hoppy.

Local garage Maydup.  They even have a waiting room where you can help yourself to a free coffee and sit and watch your car being MOT'd.

I thought that when a car failed an MoT you couldn't drive it - so couldn't take it to another testing place?

Mines due this month - I take it to a testing station that only does testing - no repairs. And the tester actually trains & certifies mechanics to do testing.

He found no faults last year, so fingers crossed!

Brainiac, look at the Heading above my OP.  My car PASSED its MOT;-))

//I thought that when a car failed an MoT you couldn't drive it//

Only (exceptionally) if the fault is too dangerous for the car to be driven.

ladybirder - I was responding to Hymie at 23:46

//£43 each at a big place in town//

You must have a small car. Mine cost 2 or 3 times that depending on make.

Yes, I do - Hyundai i10
