petrol stations
When in a petrol station and the only pump free is the opposite side to your petrol tank, is it acceptable to reverse in and fill up, or drive real close and yank the nozzle round so it reaches? I note most people wait for the desired pump (as I do) Is there pump etiquette? :O)

I love people like you who cannot drive precisly enough to line their car up to do this.
Thankyou for leaving pumps free for me to fill my car without waiting.
I have never found it necasary to reverse up to a pump!
As bob57 says the vast majority of pump have hoses that pull out far enough to reach the far side of your car. You only have to be within a couple of feet of the pump....that's hardly real close. Still take care though.
Is there such a thing as etiquette nowadays?..........well that could start a separate thread all on its own!

Please, Salamanda and all the other female drivers who no doubt all consider themselves as "my driving is excellent". When I drive into a petrol station and go to a vacant pump - passing all you females just sat apparently waiting for something - is this considered bad etiquette?. Now that you point this out, I do realise that this does happen often but never before have I thought that you were actually waiting to take turns. I really do find it hard to believe that you cannot manage to fill up from either side of a pump.
Just a point - as bob57 says - a lot of petrol stations NOW have longer fuel pump pipes. By "NOW" read from at least FORTY YEARS ago. In the days of attendant service only, I remember one of the attendants making a sarcastic remark to a female driver who though she could only park on one side of the pump!
