No, afraid not.It does say in your policy, somewhere. Also your insurance shall normally be cancelled so you aren't covered to drive anything until you renew your insurance again.

so it would have been smarter to have paid in monthly instalments, thereby only paying one month,s insurance?
no,because they would have taken the remainder out of the settlement figure
fraid not. if you were paying monthly, you would have to pay the outstanding amount of cash before your ins company would take up your claim....
well, i sold my car 2 months after i renewed my insurance, i paid monthly, i called my insurance company and i didnt have to pay anything, they actually gave me money back because the month i sold it, they took that month's payment out of my account so i guess it depends on the insurance company

In regards to bellasasha's answer, this is correct, but as she didn't have an accident, it's not entirely relevant.

If you make a claim under the insurance policy, then you have used the product - all premium is due in full.

If you don't make a claim, but cancel for any reason, you are entitled to a refund, but there may be a small admin charge

gouldc, spot on.

been in both situations. thought i was being ripped off when i made a claim and had to pay in full even though my insurance company didnt fight my claim ! i was young and didnt realise i was expected to pay again for their help. (legal protection) we all live and learn !
