I just don't know. I almost bought one last week, but changed my mind at the last minute. I guess thay're seen as an "old man's car," although why that should be I don't know. i would be interested in what others have to say.
I have a Rover and i love it. I had an Astra before enough said there. Im very happy with mine never had a problem even though id heard nothing but bad things about them.

because they have gone out of buisness there is no way to sort things out when they go wrong which they do quiet often, they have even lost loads of info on certain cars, so if you ring them up give them your chassis number and normally you can tell them what part you need they will make sure its the right one, but they cant do this without this info
Their biggest problem towards the end was their total lack of meaningful development. The 45 for example is a car that is not even in the field next to the ball park when it comes to driving dynamics, ride quality, handling, internal fixtures and packaging etc etc, it was out of date before it went on sale. The 25 was the same, they are simply not competitive with cars from other manufacturers. Putting a new body kit on and some new wheels is not a substitute for proper deveopment. The MG versions of all the cars are so impressive only because they started from such poor raw material to begin with.
Since being bitten by one when I was young, I stick to cats.
Jeremy Clarkson is well known for his dislike of Rovers and as an acomplished motoring broadcaster and paper columnist people hear and read what he says and tend to agree with him.
Being a rover mechanic for the last 18yrs i dont seem to have a problem with them and have owned rovers for the last 10 yrs as for an old mans car yes some of them are but u wanna try a 220 coupe turbo or the mgrv8.The biggest problem is the cooling system but if the water level and antifreeze content are checked on a regular basis they dont cause too much problems. The biggest problem for rover was when BMW took charge they shut down all overseas dealers for 5 yrs, stole the mini. When bmw sold out leaving massive debts the company spent far too much on the le mans project than there road cars the Z cars are fine but outdated
coz my ex husband loved them so I naturally despise them! and they are very old fogey motors x
Head gaskets go on the K series engines at just over 100k miles. The 75's retro styling is a bit old fashioned for many tastes.
