hi, this is just a sugestion so any of you bikers out there please dont slaughter me, if your bike has been stood a while the fuel may well have gone off?, and has contaminated your carb which turns the fuel to a whitish sludge and blocks the jets, the reason i am saying this is my own bike was off the road for a few months due to me being ill and i experienced the exact same probs as you have described, i stripped the carbs cleaned the jets and it ran fine, i also cleaned the filters (fuel and air ), i am by no means a mechanic so this is just a suggestion, all the best, john.
I had the same problem as bobis. My would start OK but would not tickover.

just as bobis says,

clean the carb.

the tick over jet will be ok. the fast running jet- ok. the mid range jet ---blocked. this means it will tick over but as soon as you slightly open the throtle it tries to ue the mid jet, finds it blocked and cuts out. when you push the bike you take it past the mid jet onto the fast jet so it appears to go ok but as you noticed, slow down ,back onto the mid jet &buuuuuurrrrrrp!

don't use metal to clean out the jets, they are an exact size and easy to damage. use a toothbrush bristle or similar (nylon/plastic)

good luck!
