when i turn on the ignition the light that determines whether a door is open or not stays on even though all the doors are shut and the ariel doesnt automatically come up as its supposed to. can anyone help me with this as i have not had the car for very long

Sounds like a faulty switch - these are usually located in the door locks - check the bonnet and boot switches first as they are a lot easier to get at.
