MoT failures
My car just failed - blocked windshield washer pipes and nozzles - and cost of replacing/repairing doubled the bill.
Anyone else failed for somethig so (seemingly) trivial?

They told him it would cost 500.00 to repair. Turned out the car had been stolen before he bought it and the damage to the sterring column had been repaired using superglue. Needed a whole new steering column and swith unit.
it may seem trivial but the point is the car should be ready for the test. anybody is capable of checking lights, washers, wipers, tyres. the mot man is under no obligation to help your car through the test, although some are more than helpful, ie a blown bulb they may replace, washers they may give you a pin to unblock them, etc. some garages only do testing so it is not in there favour to fail the car. but some garages do testing and repairs so if your car fails then nine times out of ten you will ask them to do the repair just to get your mot.
I think the MoT tester has given you some good info (blocked nozzles and pipes) that suggest it has gunge in the pipes, which means it needs a good bit of stripping down and flushing out.
And yes, a dirty windscreen is not trivial: after a few miles driven on a motorway in winter, you will need to clean the screen to be able to see!
My wife was told her Toyota would fail the MOT if she didn't allow the Motorline mechanic in Canterbury to remove stickers from her rear window as they encroached upon the area required for safe vision, the same stickers that Motorline had proydly placed on the window uin the first place a) to advertise themselves and b) to advise other roadusers that the owner of the car is disabled and to leave space behind .
