Fiesta auto cutting out update
Me again! Mechanic has been & it appears to be the same thing causing the problem as before. It is something outside the gearbox, a throttle something or other. Last time he was able to just adjust it but this time it needs replacing. The problem occurred for him too & every time he attempted to put in drive or reverse the car cut out so he disconnected it & it was fine, so will need a new one. In the meantime he said I could drive it with it disconnected, as long as I do replace it shortly. So fingers crossed it is sorted just need to wait for the part. So far it has been ok but have noticed that in the past 2 days it hasn't been idling properly, sort of 'shakey'.
Thank you all, especially JimmyK.

It has been about 2 weeks since the mechanic disconnected the 'throttle something or other' & it has been fine up until about 4 days ago. When idling the revs go to around 1100 & then back down to about 500, then back up, down, etc. Has stalled twice. Car is running fine other than that & I know the mechanic said it needed a new part but for it to start playing up again is highly annoying. Could it be that it is not that part that I actually need, could it in fact be something else and that him just fiddling with the engine sorted it for a while? HELP!!!!
