the radio comes back on after switching off the ignition only just started doing this ?

You sure there isn't another position on the ignition switch ?

Some cars (Renault I had did) have a position back from the '0' position which keeps some accessories powered and allows you to remove the key. The handbook would confirm this.

Other than that a failing ignition switch perhaps ?
