i drive a merc sprinter, a fast one that keeps up with the traffick flow....i am not a white van man but i go as fast as the speed limit takes me or as fast as the vehicle in front!

then why oh why do people feel the need to overtake me and gain nothing but 14ft?????? and then turn off at the next junction???????????????????

because they probably feel that being slower than a van is an embrassment. There are many sad individuals on the road that think beating everyone else is a must.
espeacially people in porsches
van envy ... pure & simple
they're probably all mini cab drivers
Cos we're fed up with looking at nothing other than your rear doors. No-one likes a van in front of them in the fast lane on the motorway. That's just the way it is.

slimjim....... i can understand that, but i am talking about the outskirts of our town.
today i was doing 60 mph with a car in front and a bloody mondeo overtook me!!! he had no intention of overtaking anything else, just me?? i was gonna be an arse and overtake him back because i have more than enough power in the od'e merc to do so?? but i didnt??

also slimjim....if you dont like looking at the back of a van why have you named yourself after a tail lift company??
like it rugeley! never thought of that!! it''s van envy, maybe. there is an unofficial heirachy of van drivers, merc drivers think they own the highway, us transit drivers know we do...
Do you keep up with traffic flow on dual carriageways with national speed limit?
if you do you are speeding! vans of your type are restricted to 60mph (refer to the highway code)
if youre concerned about people cutting in front of you. (especially aproaching a roundabout or or junction).
you should try driving a 44 tonne loaded chemical tanker it happens to me every day. its scary
baz
The above is correct and on a single carriageway national a van of this tyoe is restricted to 50, so I would expect the traffi flow to overtake.

If you think like some ill informed drivers that its ok to do 10mph over the speed limit(and it is certainly not the case) then in your van at 78 on a dul carriage way you are 18mph over the speed limit, Any idea of the fine and points espeacially with the new corporate bill and clamp down going on.
If only there was a way of predicting that sort of manoeuvre coz then you could put your foot down and give him a wallop broadside AND do him for dangerous driving. YES!!!

ok, sorry to all you soft to55ers in the cars who break the speed limit and put oncoming traffic in danger, its all my fault for trying to keep the great british roads flowing!!!
They do it for the same reason that HGV drivers overtake one another at an overtaking speed of about 1mph, thus taking them about 2 miles to complete the manoeuvre. (Unless they hit a hill in the meantime when the overtaking lorry will probably end up falling behind again).
