ok this is a bit hard to explain but, under my bonnet i have basically a plastic cover covering my engine, i think its only there to make the engine look better and seem cleaner. but i dont like it and wondered whether it would be possible for me to take this off and paint it with heat retardent paint? such as caliper paint?? any answers would be very helpful thanks

No reason why not as long as the paint takes onto the plastic ok. However. why you care what the cover looks like beats me !

Im not sure how hot these covers actually get, but i dont really think it would be hot enough to need heat retardent paint, also wont the fire retardent paint need put on with a brush which might not look to swish, if your planning on your planning on doing it yourself id say try spray cans first and if it all goes peat tong then go for the caliper stuff, i would however say that if its not hot enough to melt the plastic its not going to make the paint peel. anyway make sure you give it a rub with scotch/scratch pad i dont actually know what there called, we use red ones at work anyway to prepare plastics, that'll stop it flaking
