It means there is a problem with the engine management system - could be something simple as a loose wire or faulty sensor - you will need to take it to a garage with diagnostic capabilities.

They will be able to read the fault code and advise how to get it sorted.

When you say engone control light I assume you mean the orange warning light with the engine symbol in it ?
