car cutting out

my 1.3 ford escort keeps cutting out at junctions. i have had a new battery on it and the fan belt tightened. i have also had a battery and alternator check, everything is fine so why is my car still cutting out?

Starting problems and over heating - you should look at the battery, "fan belt" and alternator if the battery isn't charging, but not stalling at junctions.
Have someone look at the carburettor and see if you can book it in for Tune-Up. Is it happening when the engine is hot/cold. When the car is ticking over does it sound OK ? Is it running fast, coughing spluttering at all ?
Have a look in your Thomson local and see if you can get it tuned and looked at. A good mechanic wouldn't have looked at the battery if the car is stalling at junctions !

Its seems to happen when the car is cold and only recently started happening with the cold weather.
It is an M reg. Also when i put my foot on the accelarator the car seems to drag a bit before acelaration is achieved.
As i have never had a Ford i wouldnt know what the correct ticking over sound for this make of car should be.

It's def nothing to do with the battery and you def need an engine tuner/diagnostic to check it out - it's not that expensive.
If it sounds Ok and the rev counter is holding steady - the tick over is fine. If it's a bit erratic - there's a problem more than likely with the carburettor. Usually just needs cleaning out and or adjusting. There's an idle valve which might need cleaning and or adjusting but when you put the clutch in at a junction - the revs drop - but they should maintain a good tick over speed - this is where the problem is, then when you dis engage the clutch and change gear, the engine revs back up and the problem goes. I bet it also does it if you go a short journey, just before you stop - it's the same thing.
Also get the tuner to change the petrol filters as there maybe a little bit of dirt in the system.
