Cost of Mot and Service?

Hi, can someone tell me what the approzimate cost of an MOT and Service should be? I've never had to sort these things out myself before!

I found somewhere near me which will do an MOT and full service for �180, or an MOT and major service for �250 which includes change of coolant and some other things.

Does this sound like a lot? It sounds reasonable to me but that's before any work needs doing I suppose.....

I had my MOT last week and that was �50. Then I suppose thay put VAT on that... I didn't realise it was that much till I turned up to collect the car...Doh!

Thanks for your answers - if that sounds like an ok charge think I'll go with it, it's a national chain so less likely to rip me off than other places (that's the hope anyway!)

Which national chain are you referring to. I have had some horror stories from people using Kwik Fit for example who have been told that further work is necessary and then faced with a huge bill.

If the quote you got included change of plugs,oil,filters,checking brakes etc. then it seems reasonable.

Ensure ,when you leave the car, that they contact you if further work is necessary so that you can ok the work and get an idea of the additional cost.

It's naitonwide auto centre Paul, their website is good so that is making me think they'll be good as well (a bit naiive I know!). Plus they're just up the road from me so easy to walk back from.

Thanks for the tip on leaving my number - I am being hopelessly optimistic and expecting their to be no extra work needing doing!

Nationwide Auto centres are very good, at least when they did my A/C service they were.

Make sure they do the service according to the servicing schedule by the manufacterers of your car, it's impossible to tell you the price of a service, if you have a Fiat Panda it will be cheap but if you take your Aston Martin in it will cost Thousands.

dont htink vat is applicable on an mot. wasnt in the garage i worked in anayway

you can use tesco clubcard points to pay for it as well, you also get 10% off, i think i paid �160 and paid for it with �40 in tesco clubcard vouchers!
