A few years ago, as I am sure you all remember, there was a strike of all petrol tanker drivers, and only a few of us could get fuel for our cars. During this trying time some of the tabloid papers ran articles as to the price of fuel, and where to get the cheapest. As you all know Answer Bank is better than any paper, and faster too, so I just thought you ABers could tell us all where we can get the cheapest fuel in your area, as some of us rely on our cars for our living. By the way I live near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and the 2 cheapest places there are Morrisons in Whitchurch road and Asda in Old Potts way. Both outlets are under the 1 per litre mark for unleaded. Hope we are allowed to name brand names here on AB!

I filled up in Luton the other day for 97.9p per litre. It's all over the quid mark here in Milton Keynes. Crap, isn't it? :o)
i paid 1.01 in tescos Astley Village today for their unleaded
Its quite cheap in Jeddah

Hi whiskeysheri, thanks for your help. Could not find that when I surfed the net. All clued up ABers head there then, but do let us know here on AB where we can fill up our tanks for next to nothing. Some hope, eh?
If you have to travel a long distance to fill up then surely its not cost effective?
Was that to me, cazzz? I filled up when I was working in Luton the other day. The link I gave gives the cheapest price according to your nearest garage (after you enter your postcode). :o)
no it was to jonny, if he has sussed out the petrol in his area then a long trip to a petrol garage wouldnt be worth it, not unless he was heading there anyway

good site ws :D
wondering whats the furthest "out of your way" round trip you would do for cheap petrol?- i've seen 98.9p but trip is 5miles for 25 fill up- worth it or false economy?
Ah, right, cazzz. It is pretty good. The one I go to all the time is the cheapest in my area, anyway, luckily. :o)
75.9p a litre here mate
Go to http://www.petrolprices.com ... enter your post-code and you will get the five cheapest nearest to you. If you register (free) you will get a weekly e-mail update.
the tanker drivers werent on strike!

fuel price protesters blockaded the terminals preventing fuel being delivered.

baz
where are you then Bazmoore?
Let's give this a go.
We all buy petrol. Petrol companies are in competition, yet the prices are all similar. Aboout 60-70% is tax, but there's no price variation between companies on the remainder. Sooooo - let's all choose a company. Let's say BP. And let's boycott it. With no sales, their prices will drop dramtically in a week or two. Now, let's not get greedy, that's just the start. We keep boycotting BP and then do the same for Texaco. When they drop their price, then we start to buy from BP and ONLY BP. Texaco will stay low, and all others will now effectively be boycotted. Within 48 hours all prices will drop.

The downside is that I know no-one would wait and would hit BP as soon as they dropped prices. But it's an idea...
petrolprices.com is s good place to start but even they can be a bit late. They gave my local Tesco as 99.9p a couple of days ago but it is now up to 101.9p. Good news is that Tescos are giving vouchers for 5p a litre off up to 1Dec if yon spend 50 or more in store. I've asked pertrolprices.com if it would be possible to factor these special supermarket deals into their reports but have not receoved a reply so far.
ps the 10 mile round trip is not worth it (it works out out about even) unless I can get the special 5p off deal or happen to be going there anyway.
I guess I'm lucky at 51p a litre!
I only pay 40p a litre but the government makes it up to 1.01.

Thanks guys for all these answers, but think that this may be out of date at time of writing now (16/04/08). The cheapest fuel now is about 105p per litre for petrol, and about 110p for diesel. Where did you say you lived the country, Bazmoore?

What did the petrol say as it was being pumped into the diesel car?

What kind of fuel do you take me for?
The best thing I ever did was get in touch with -The Alternative Fuel Supply Research Agency - I need to drive across country to work, public transport would take 5 hrs, and Icould not afford it.
They found me a fuel supplies near my home and I still use them. [email protected]
